Drop-in-Center

Drop-in-Center is a community center for homeless people and the working poor in down town Long Beach. We strive to provide a haven from the weather and the harsh conditions of the streets on Sunday afternoons.

Computer Lab Our Computer lab provides access to the internet, to find work, write resumes, find family or just surf the web. A sixteen workstation computer lab and an instructor are available to help anyone who may need it. The instructor will assist our guests with learning new computer skills in order to broaden their job opportunities. If you are talented in that area, we can use more volunteers.

The Paperwork Preservation Project(P3) Homeless people carry important personal papers around which often get lost, stolen or destroyed by the weather. The Paperwork Preservation Project (P3) offers an innovative solution to the problem. We can scan the papers to “back up” files and send them to each person’s private e-mail account. Lost information can then be recovered at any time.

The Visiting Nurse We also have a nurse who comes once a month. This dedicated volunteer monitors blood pressure, blood sugar and helps with wound care. The nurse provides what information and council our guests may need often addressing questions about depression, addiction issues and many other health concerns

Homeless With Dogs

The Urban Community Outreach Drop-in-Center recognizes that many of our guests keep dogs and cats even as they have no home of their own. These pets are often abandoned then adopted by those we serve. As we do what we can for those in need they are caring for lost and abandoned pets. A pet is a precious gift offering companionship and unconditional love.

Each Sunday we distribute dog and cat food to our guests so they may care for their pet companions. HWD also distributes collars, leashes and dog beds when they are donated to us. Eventually we hope to do more to help with those living with pets on the street. That will come in time and through the generous donations of our friends in the communtiy.

We welcome donations of pet food and supplies as well as  monetary donations for the DIC/HWD program. You can make donations through our paypal link or send donations directly to the Urban Community outreach Drop-In-Center.
